As a writer (Lightning Flowers), I gained essential insight on how to frame issues I’m writing about in the fields of medical technology and resource extraction. As a teacher, I took away dynamic methods for both exploding problems and refining potential paths for creative research and revisioning - the types of tools that will empower my students to discover what they have to bring to this global conversation. This training encouraged me to pursue this line of research, gave me a different set of tools for approaching its possibilities, and empowered me as a write to push where policy change might make the most difference.
